Madison Rails
deployment lightning talk
- What everyone says: Rails deployment sucks
- Use Mongrel (cluster) with something in front
- Capistrano quick demo here
- Rimuhosting works right now, quickly with Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 and Deprec
- I got a deployment up and running in under two hours, from zero to full fledged production deployment, using this combination.
- Deprec takes care of: installing Apache 2.2.3, mongrel, mongrel_rails, capistrano, ruby 1.8.4, rails, pushing you SSH public key out, setting up your apache config files, and probably other stuff I’m forgetting
- the primary thing you need setup before hand SSH knowledge, and you will want key based auth with something like keychain to manage your keys.
- SSH will probably be the hardest thing if you are new to it
- $30/month to show your Rails app to world, plus a full fledge linux box with root access to play around with. What are you waiting for?
